Intui Research App
Effective: April 15th 2020
Flinders University and goAct Pty Ltd collect two kinds of personal information about you when you access the Intui Research App website (“the Site”) and the Android and iOS Intui Research App (“the App”).
If we do not collect your personal information we are unable to:
- Send you a proximity alert if you have been in the same location at the same time as a person with a diagnosed infectious disease, or infectious disease symptoms;
- Assist in monitoring your recovery should you report infectious disease symptoms; and
- Utilise your anonymised data to track the spread of infectious diseases in your community to guide public health officials in minimising the impacts of the disease.
Sensitive personal data
This is information about you, your health and your symptoms if unwell, as well as data shared by your phone such as your IP address and location.
We process this data in order that:
- we can provide you with up-to date information;
- we can better understand symptoms of infectious diseases;
- we can track the spread of infectious diseases; and
- we can advance scientific research into the links between a patient's health and their response to infectious diseases.
After you install the app, we will continuously collect your location and movement data from your phone (eg: every 5 minutes) and ask you to complete a health check-in daily.
We store this data on a secure cloud database hosted in Australia.
Algorithms running on the cloud every 30 minutes will assess whether you have potentially come into contact with a confirmed infectious disease case, or been in the same location as a confirmed infectious disease case, based on your location and movements.
You will be notified if you may be at risk of contracting the infectious disease which may inform your decision to get tested, and self isolate if required to help prevent the spread of the disease.
When we send notifications, we do not reveal details of the actual infected locations so as to protect the privacy of other app users. We also ensure notifications are sent at least 30 minutes after a potential contact was detected to ensure anonymity.
We share this data with the following Public Health Authorities researching infectious diseases:
- Flinders University;
- Government health organisations (including SA Health); and
- The South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI).
Prior to sharing your information with Public Health Authorities, we de-identify and anonymise the data.
These parties will use this data to learn about symptoms, track the spread of infectious diseases by location and guide public health officials to minimise the impact of infectious diseases (e.g. environmental cleaning, redirecting health resources as needed).
We will not share your identifiable details or your personal level location and movement data with anyone.
We will delete your movement and location data after 30-days.
We will not use your data for commercial purposes.
We will delete and destroy all data collected through the App when it is no longer relevant to addressing an infectious disease crisis.
Third party processors for both kinds of information
We use third parties to process some of your personal data on our behalf. When we allow them access to your data, we do not permit them to use it for their own purposes. We have in place with each processor, a contract that requires them only to process the data on our instructions and to take proper care in using it. They are not permitted to keep the data after our relationship with them has ended.
These processors include:
- Amazon Web Services
- Google Cloud Platform
